A Choice Made in Life

It never is an easy choice to make,

no matter how sure you think you might be.

Living in this back and forth

we are only allowed so much to see

by our unreasonable reality.

That Fortune is indeed hard to come by

and only a few may reach that crest

of her rolling waves of adversity.

Yet, in hard work could we reach that bliss,

all according to the time we invest.

But it always comes down to some honest choice:

will you truly put in all you can;

do they see you trying your best?

I know I can’t see what you began,

with those you thought yourself better than.

No matter, though, what can be seen

by those who pray for your downfall,

those jealous of your righteous plans.

Their choice was already made long ago

as they holed themselves up in their hall.

That fear is a trying foe to anyone

who tries to break their tired mould

and reach out beyond sweet freedom’s call.

The coffins of safety line up the cold

corridor they once led you, in a blindfold.

And no matter how far you think you’ve escaped,

that hall will never truly end.

Not when you’re in its control.

And before its master you’ll be forced to stand

to beg the mercy of his merciless hand.

With that final breath you’ll be carried out,

to what used to be your lonely palace,

that palace of lies and sand.

At least, that would be your hapless

future, should you continue along this road to pass.

Let’s say you choose another way

to free yourself from these chains of hardship;

Would you take that risky chance?

Free yourself, and make the choice, like a whip,

and crack open the shell of that tightened grip.

Of course, it is never an easy choice to make,

no matter how right you may truly be.

No one chooses off a deceitful tip.

So sail your ship on that perilous sea

before they find out you had tried to flee.

And we’ll know if you escape this back and forth,

escape to a life of joy and bliss.

And your happiness I will see

reflected in that mirror’s mist;

your smile of freedom, I’ll truly miss.

Hopefully, then, I can follow you there.

I’ll do what I can to decide.

It’s never easy making that risk,

but I know I’ll have to pick a side:

It will be by you I'll forever ride.
