disassembly of the SONY TCM-150 requires the removal of two silver screws from the back panel.underneath the front panel are five screws which must also be removed: a silver screw of the same type as the back panel’s, a longer black screw behind the microphone, and three black machine screws in the

cassette bay.

after these screws are removed, pry up the back panel from the side opposite the controls. you should see a PCB with two sets of paired wires leaving the board: the two black wires on the battery side power the speaker, while the red and black wire on the control side of the board connect to the

microphone. desolder these, then lift the spring latch on the battery side and gently slide the PCB out of the housing—the motor and reel assembly is attached to the back.

the microphone can be removed now by gently pulling the case around it outwards and pressing the silver shield out. once this is removed, a rubber housing with the red and black wires from previous sticking out should be visible; there is a flap at the bottom, which should be gripped with pliers and pulled until the rubber housing and microphone are free from the shield. verify these wires have not snapped or otherwise detached from the microphone.

removal and replacement of the belt can be achieved by removing the two silver machine screws holding the PCB to the motor mounting plate, but care must be taken to not snap the wires connecting the two. one millimeter or point-seven millimeter square-faced belts are acceptable replacements, although one millimeter is recommended.

reassembly is done in the reverse order, with attention paid to the alignment of the pause switch and slider/lever—no force should be required until the case halves are pressed together.
