Sheep on a hill

A sheep stands on a hill.

Dolly black eyes gloss over the herd below.

The simple life of grazing,

with the occasional barking of the Shepherd dogs.

A sheep dreams on a hill.

Faded black eyes slide back and forth beneath the eyelids.

Teardrops hit the grass.

The gore of existing,

and the frequent yelps of the Shepherd dogs.

A sheep melts on a hill.

Sunken yellow eyes find what they’re looking for.

The turning of gears and snarling of wolves.

The silence of the Shepherd dogs.

There was never a herd.

They were all in sheep’s clothing.
