Timeless Wonder

Isn’t it beautiful?

That love has been

universally

and unapologetically

a human experience.

That love finds itself

as the topic of

Shakespearean literature

and my lunch conversation.

Don’t you think it’s wonderful?

That we, as a species, have loved

for as long as records exist.

That my mother was not the first

to hold her children and whisper

all her hopes and dreams into existence,

and that she will not be the last.

That my friendship bracelets

from the ninth grade

are entwined with

what I thought

was all the love in the world.

Only to find out that

I have an endless supply.

I truly think it’s spectacular.

That I get to feel the same love

that resulted in the Taj Mahal

and Valentine’s Day traditions.

That my niece will never not know love

because my sister is standing

on the shoulders of people

with giant hearts.

Isn’t that beautiful?
